Check out a short film by a Swiss native and one of my favorite actors, Charlie Chaplin. Silent films were the next evolution from still photography. In a way, silent films have been improperly named.  Even though they did not have synchronized sound, most theaters and movie theaters provided sound machines, pianists and musical scores to accompany the viewing.
